Elfworks – A software subscription that doesn’t gather dust

Accountants are very keen not to pay for another subscription they barely (or never) use. This common feedback has led us to review and change our pricing structure to ensure the cost of an Elfworks user subscription aligns with the use of that subscription.
One of the great things about AI large language models is the way they charge based on token usage as this allows the user to track their token usage to find the right subscription to match their actual use. The flexible nature of our subscriptions – you can switch to a higher or lower tier every month if you wish – along with the three-tier pricing structure (based on usage) means firms can set and adjust to find the right subscription mix.
We have no interest in being another under-used subscription you keep paying for as you’re too busy to properly assess usage; we are seeking to replace those subscriptions.

Token usage – the cost of Large Language Models (LLMs)
LLMs charge based on token usage, which measures the computational cost of processing inputs and outputs. Tokens are chunks of text, typically words or parts of words, that are used by the model to first understand
Inputs: When you input a query into Elfworks involving say ‘capital gins tax’, the scenario and questions are broken down into tokens e.g., the words ‘capital’, ‘gains’ and ‘tax’ will likely form tokens. These are then given an individual numerical representation (a vector) which allows the model to process words as numbers to arrive at an understanding of the input.
Outputs: Tokens are generated by the LLM one-by-one on output with the model predicting the next token based on context. There is an additional computational requirement on the output step of the LLM making output tokens slightly more expensive than input tokens.
New pricing structure – Low, Medium and High usage (from mid-September 2025)
We are moving to a three-tiered pricing structure, as set out below:
*Token limits are soft limits i.e., if you exceed your limit for the month, you can still use the platform.
** We have explained token usage based on Advice pieces run as this is the Elfworks feature that burns the most tokens. Other platform features have a much lower token burn e.g., Client Query, Chat, Private Rulings and the Toolbox features can be used consistently throughout the month on the Low Usage tier without exhausting the 3,000,000 token limit.
The idea is to allow firms to find the right mix for them; firms that have a centralised advisory function may purchase several High-usage licences with other staff on the lower tiers. Firms with a more collaborate, de-centralised approach may have everyone on the Medium-usage tier.
Data and Privacy
We have opted-out of storage and data-training with our enterprise subscriptions to Ai models, meaning client information is not stored or used for training the model post analysis; the data is deleted with only the analysis remaining.
